WATAN completed its laying down of sewage pipes project in Areeha – Binish. The project, which was supposed to end at the beginning of this year, was extended until the end of March. One of its main aims was to eliminate sources of leishmania in rural Idlib. WATAN began implementing the project by mid-last year after researching the reasons leading to the spread of the disease and it was found that the existence of an open sewage system that passes through those villages led to it. WATAN extended a sewage line that passes through all affected villages with a length of 9 km to include 155,000 beneficiaries. WATANs water and sanitation projects are characterized by long-term services aimed at serving the target communities through water supply, waste removal and sanitation services.
