Under the banner “Together We Build Bridges of Peace” and the slogan “Peace Unites Us” the WATAN Protection Programme organised a remarkable initiative in Aleppo on 31 December 2024. This initiative aimed to promote love, peace, and social unity within the city, which has endured the scars of war and division for many years. The project was driven by our deep belief that peace is the cornerstone of strong, stable societies.
The initiative sought to ease social tensions from years of conflict by fostering coexistence. At its heart was a silent march– a powerful expression of the need for societal cohesion. The event also aimed to strengthen social unity and rebuild trust through collective efforts to counter violence and division.
A key focus of the initiative was spreading messages of love and collaboration. Symbolic activities highlighted the importance of teamwork and solidarity across all religious and social spectrums, reinforcing the belief that a brighter future is only possible through peace.
The silent march brought together over 150 participants from various age groups and social backgrounds. Banners displaying messages of peace and love were raised high. One of the most moving activities was lighting candles in front of churches and mosques to symbolise interfaith harmony. The event saw enthusiastic participation from local volunteer groups such as WATAN’s team, Aleppo Volunteers, and members of the 10th Scout Troop. Many individuals also joined spontaneously after learning about the march through social media.
The initiative successfully reinforced peace and social justice, delivering a clear message: peace is the foundation for building sustainable communities. It also strengthened community bonds by bringing together people from diverse backgrounds, reflecting a genuine will for coexistence and unity.
The community’s overwhelming support for the initiative highlighted the resident’s deep desire to return to a peaceful, normal life after years of conflict.
These achievements demonstrate WATAN’s steadfast commitment to rebuilding Syrian communities on pillars of love and peace—far from the echoes of war, the roar of aircraft, and the devastation of conflict. In its rich cultural diversity, Syria holds the potential to rise again.
With the opening of its office in Aleppo and its plans for a stronger local presence, WATAN remains dedicated to engaging youth from all walks of life in the rebuilding process. Their active participation as contributors and change makers will help foster an environment of cooperation, solidarity, and hope for a brighter future.
